Author Bio

Kim Bosworth grew up in a small town in north Iowa where she decided early on in first grade that she wanted to be a writer when she grew up. She graduated from Klemme High School (1974), Buena Vista University (1978) with a B.A. in Speech and Drama and English and University of Northern Iowa (1999) with a M.A. in Communication Studies. She taught English and speech for twenty-five years in the Decorah, North Winneshiek, and South Winneshiek school districts and served nine years as Dean of Arts and Sciences at Northeast Iowa Community College.

Throughout much of her teaching years, Kim taught writing and often enjoyed writing along with her students. Several of her poems have been published in Lyrical Iowa, one poem winning first place. She attended the Summer Writing Festival at the University of Iowa and the Iowa Writer’s Workshop for educators which strongly influenced her desire to write.  After retirement from teaching, she had more time to dedicate to her own writing, especially when she became a caregiver for her mother who had end stage COPD.  Her first novel, Just When I Needed Her Most, grew from her experience caring for her mother.  She was able to complete the draft of her book and read it to her mother before she passed away in October 2016.  Kim’s mother was an inspiration for her writing while growing up, since she also enjoyed writing poetry and stories, often sharing these with her children at bedtime. Kim self-published her novel in November 2017 through a book publishing company,, a division of Knopf Enterprises in Jacksonville, Florida.

Writing a novel has been Kim’s life-long dream. Besides writing, she enjoys baking, beading jewelry, and  spending time in St. Augustine, Florida, where she and her husband visit their son and escape the Iowa winters. While in Florida, she attends the Ancient City Writer’s Association in St. Augustine, Florida. She is currently writing her second novel.
