Give Books to the Library

The library accepts gifts of gently used books, CDs and other material. If you are cleaning out your home or office, consider donating your used items to the library.

Gifts of books, magazines, and other items to the Cresco Public Library are encouraged with the understanding that they will be included in the collection only if they meet a need as determined by the director and also meet the criteria for selection.  The donor will receive a receipt for tax purposes if desired and will sign a gift agreement form.  When the library receives a cash gift for the purchase of memorial books, equipment or other materials, the selection will be made by the director in consultation with the donor.  The name of the donor and person memorialized will be entered on the bookplate place in or on the item.  Materials not deemed appropriate for the collection will be sold for a minimal amount of given away.  Those who do not wish their books to be discarded in this manner will be responsible for collecting them after they have been sorted.  Books that are not collected with ten (10) days of notification will be disposed of in the manner described above.

We do NOT need:

·        Magazines more than two years old

·        Romance novels more than three years old

·        Textbooks older than three years old except for literary classics

·        Reader’s Digest Condensed Books

·        Dated computer books

·        Water damaged or mildewed books

·        Books with missing covers or dust jackets

·        Promotional videos or pamphlets

·        Old encyclopedia sets

Please call the library before dropping off books.  Due to space restrictions and so that we may go through the boxes in a timely manner, we ask you to limit your donations to two boxes per week.  Please do not leave books outside of the library as they will be subject to the weather.  Upon cursory glance through the boxes, you may be asked to take the boxes back immediately if most of the items seem unusable.
