Genealogy Collection

Howard-Winneshiek Genealogical Research Center is located in the Cresco Public Library and contains information from the counties of Howard, Winneshiek, Chickasaw, Fillmore, Clayton and Allamakee.

 

Within the Howard-Winneshiek Genealogical Research Center are church records, cemetery records, census records, family histories, naturalization indexes, marriage and death newspaper indexes, and microfilm of local newspapers with a computer with microfilm reader. There are also Civil War records, history books of Norman Borloug, plat books, high school year books (in conjunction with the library), Ossian newspapers, obituaries, Chattel mortgage books, Courthouse records and other books, telephone books and files. There are also books and tools to aid with Czech, Welsh and Scandinavian research in addition to the general research materials.

 

The Howard-Winneshiek Genealogical Society also meets at the Cresco Public Library in March, May, July, September and November. Guests are welcome. Contact the library for more information. New members are always welcome. Membership dues help pay for additional research tools and produce a newsletter.
